    Excellent acting, big-budget effects

Being relatively new to Dr. Who, I decided to purchase the DVD's because the strong British and Scottish accents make it important to replay certain parts to hear the dialog (vs. watching the re-runs on BBC America and wondering 'what did he just say'?) These are excellent, thoughtful and brilliantly acted episodes. Once I understood that this is Fantasy and not Science Fiction, I stopped trying to make sense of the utter free-for-all of time travel paradoxes. These shows are vehicles for portraying humanity's shining moments of love, courage, loyalty, devotion, and resourcefulness. This particular season introduced Matt Smith and Karen Gillan as the Doctor and Amy Pond. They are INCREDIBLE. Pay special attention to the first episode The Eleventh Hour" with Caitlin Blackwood as young ...

  • Same Story-New Doctor

The continuing saga of the Doctor, who has regenerated, with a NEW Face, and New Companion. I didn't know how this was gonna work with a non-english companion, but she has done quite well. Amy Pond is a great addition to the Doctor Who family. Matt Smith has one pretty good as the Doctor, though different from the last 2, who have played the role to its best possible outcome. I love watching this 5th Season, like all the rest and had to buy it to add to the Series Collection. If you like Doctor who, you'll love this continuing saga, with a few new faces and plot lines. Can;t wait for the 6 Season to start.

  • Dr Who, dirt cheap.

What can I say, It's Dr. Who. If you are familiar with Dr. Who, there's nothing I need to say. If you are not, there is nothing I could say that would be comprehensible. Just one thing: there are lots of copies of this set on ebay at the moment, and I suspect they are so cheap because the manufacturing quality is a bit sketchy. I found that the normal playing sequence was damaged on the first two disks, so it is necessary to push the menu controls to get to the content menu; otherwise you get a 'disk unreadable' message. I found this on two sets from two different ebay vendors.

  • Classic BBC series Doctor Who remains strong with Matt Smith.

I caught the fifth series of Doctor Who on BBC America last year and was anxious to buy the whole set on DVD when it came out. The 13 stories themselves are for the most part outstanding, and Matt Smith is brilliant in his first season as the Doctor. Also, kudos go out to head writer Steven Moffat and cast regulars Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill. I felt I had to subtract one star from my review of this DVD collection because of the disappointing quality of disc five. The picture quality of the three stories on the disc ("The Lodger", "The Pandorica Opens", and "The Big Bang") was grainy and not at all what one would expect from an official BBC release. Other people I have spoken to have also experienced this same problem. I think BBC Video should replace these discs.

  • Doctor Who DVD Sets: A Tragedy of Minor Proportions

The content is awesome. Getting it out of the case is a bit of a hassle, though. These dvd sets released for Doctor Who, in my opinion, have always lacked the means of holding the dvds in their cases. While for this set, the dvds have to be gingerly yanked off their binding. Well done for the correction of the previous errors. Might I suggest a happy medium though, perhaps? The case is extra shiny, on the positive.
