This book is likely to become a treasured family read!!! How many books or story collections are currently on the market that cater to the different ages and abilities of your child in one single offering? Very few - as publishers want to encourage us to buy, buy, buy!! This is one book that will grow up with your child. This compilation features a whopping 44 stories, all selected by Janet Schulman who is a well respected Children's book editor and publisher! There are many stories and / or characters that will be familiar to children and adults; as stories range from the contemporary to old classics such as Babar and Curious George!! The next wonderful thing about this book is the unique color coding system that lets you know the age group to which is story is designed to appeal: Red - these are stories for the very youngest age group, baby - preschool! These stories are simple,and heavy on the illustrations to capture the child's attention and imagination. Examples include Goodnight Moon - a delightful classic and a calming bedtime read! Or I am a Bunny which is a journey through the four seasons with few words but bright vibrant artwork to get the story across! The second - blue tag - is based on the preschool picture book concept - again, lots of pictures but also a story that will captivate the child and maybe impart a lesson. A great example is the wonderful Chika Chika Boom Boom, which our toddler loves - a fun, busy, book which explores the alphabet or the warming Guess How much I Love You! Finally stories with the green tag, amke more use of text and feature much less - sometimes no ,illustrations. Not necessarily designed for the child to read themselves initially, but it does require a chil to listen more and pay attention for a longer time period - such as Winnie the Pooh Goes Visiting or Dr. Seuss' - The Sneetches! To find a book that will grow with your child or offer something for a household with children of different ages - is rare!! This is simply a treasure - and one I wish I had discovered long ago....many of the books we have bought are featured in this - so if you are looking to build a library quickly - this is a good, and indeed cheaper way to do it!! This book is truly a treasure! We already owned many of the books in this anthology, but having them all together in one volume is such a pleasure. We love to sit down and take turns choosing stories. There are no disappointments. My 4 year old daughter loves to leaf through this book at nap time and look at all of the beautiful and highly varied illustrations. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to instill a love of literature into a child.
