Synopsis
The legendary precursor to The Lord of the Rings "A creation of singular beauty . . . magnificent in its best moments."-- The Washington Post Set primarily in the First Age of Middle-earth, The Silmarillion contains the legend of the creation of the world and an account of the Elder Days. It is the ancient drama remembered by Elrond and Galadriel in The Lord of the Rings, and the harrowing origin of the adventure that ends ages later with Frodo and the One Ring. At the story's heart are the three Silmarils, jewels that held within them the Light of the Two Trees of Valinor, and Fëanor, the most gifted of elven artificers. When the Two Trees are destroyed, the Silmarils become coveted, setting into motion events that lead to the rebellion of Fëanor and his kindred against the gods, their exile from Valinor, and their hopeless war against the greatest enemy Middle-earth has ever known: Morgoth., The must-have companion to the epic masterpiece The Lord of the Rings The Silmarillion is Tolkien's first book and his last. Long preceding in its origins The Lord of the Rings, it is the story of the First Age of Tolkien's world, the ancient drama to which characters in The Lord of the Rings look back, and in which some of them, such as Elrond and Galadriel, took part. The Silmarillion was begun in 1917, and Tolkien worked on it, changed it, and enlarged it throughout his life. Edited by his son, Christopher Tolkien, the book finally appeared four years after the author's death. - 7***r (586)- Feedback left by buyer.Past monthVerified purchaseNice book at a good price. Only issue I had with this Seller is the fact they use a "third party" shipping company called OSM Worldwide, that is very poor at their job. This third party caused a delay of 3 to 4 days at least in my receiving the book I purchased. I have contacted the Seller and made them aware of this issue. Should you decide to do business with this Seller just be aware that your book may take longer than usual to arrive.
- c***n (67)- Feedback left by buyer.Past monthVerified purchaseThis book was the completely wrong item (BUYERS BEWARE - STOCK IMAGE IS *NOT* THE EDITION YOU WILL RECEIVE!), seller communication was awful (didn't answer any questions, barely legible English), shipping was extremely late (sent false tracking number then actually shipped it 2+ weeks post-order date), and it was poorly packaged (book corners bent up since shipped in a plastic bag with no padding or support whatsoever). Awful experience with this seller in every imaginable way.
- 7***5 (218)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseItem is just as described, although it’s pictured larger than actual size; which is the size of a deck of flash cards. Also disappointed that the item was mailed to wrong address or customer mix up & no one responded to my email or apologized or explained why item was sent somewhere else. I don’t know if this is a reflection of seller or seller’s employees? I had a project to use it on & just moved forward. Thank you seller.
