    Olympus 550UZ as a general purpose camera

    After having come back to using this camera after trying several more recent model compact zooms (which I use for ease of carrying when travelling), what struck me about the Olympus 550UZ is the ease of learning and using the various camera settings in real life, i.e when you want to select a setting quickly without delay or frustration. Would also recommend using the screw on tube for attaching filters, not so much for the filters but for holding the camera steady for long zoom shots.

    Great Digital Camera For The Occasional Picture Taker.

    I bought this little camera because technology is dragging me(kicking and screaming) into digital. I like basic film SLR's and Kodak Film, but Kodak is gone, and I'm not a fan of Fuji film. Sooner or later FujiFilm will be gone as well...so here I am. The camera is small and light but comfortable in the hands. the only issue I have with it is the format of the memory card. It's Xd. I didn't consider that when I bought the camera. SD is the popular format... so Xd's when you find them are going to be expensive and not readily available in most markets. They're available but you won't find small capacity ones like a 2 gb on the shelf. I found one on Ebay at a reasonable price. I can't see buying an 8 or 16gb card. it's a matter of cost vs. usage. ...

    Olympus 550 camera, a great camera

    I bought this model camera new several years ago. It had gotten a broken battery door. I found this used camera cheaper than I could find the battery door. Bought it and it works as great as my other one so I am using it instead of removing parts.

    I have experience with the Olympus sp series. I very much enjoy taking pictures with these cameras and am happy to own another one. They take clear pictures and the zoom is fantastic. easy enough to use that my 8 year old neice and nephew have been taking pictures with the SP560 for 4 years now.

    Great flash, zoom and battery capacity

    If you've ever had a camera run out of battery power, this camera uses 4 AA batteries. I use it for work so use rechargeable AA's plus backups. Most camera's now have rechargeable batteries so you need at least 1 backup battery. I've been in a little town in Poland in need of fresh batteries and getting AA's is easy even in a small town corner Polish grocery store.
