    Excellent niche product

I got one of these when they came out back in 2012 - it was nice to have a tuner that could use a cable card to view encrypted video on other devices other than a TV. Combined with programs like Plex, it can create a DVR type of environment.

  • Hdhomerun Prime HDHR3-CC with Comcast

Awesome product. I'm not sure about other providers but Comcast seems bad about cablecard support. The first 4 cable cards I got did not work and it was not the hdhomerun. The Cablecards came from a Comcast office. After 2 bad cards I bought a second hdhomerun just to be sure. But the two new cards and the 2 hdhomeruns would not work. I got cards 5 and 6. When I put the 5th card in, it worked. The 6th did not. So I exchanged that one and the 7th worked. Good thing too because they had no more in stock they were going to have to order one.Thank goodness that one worked. I would think Comcast should be checking their cards, but they have no cablecard devices to check them in. I'm sure Comcast has to support cablecards by law or something, because they sure don't like supporting ...

  • High quality 3-HD Channel Network Tuner

I owned the Prime 6-channel which is 2 of these tied together for several years. The Homerun tuners are high quality, well build and durable. There was an occasional need for a reboot because a couple times a month it would freeze, never affected the recording functions, but my system was always on and running multiple applications, so it was likely my system's issue. Good quality tuners and high resolution pictures, smooth transitions between channels and good audio capabilities. The Ethernet (network) tuners like this one work better (faster, smoother) than the USB tuners seem to. The versatility a good 3- channel HD network tuner adds is substantial to a good multi-media center. sincerely, An HD Homerun Fan

  • Worked so well I purchased another

The product just works! Initially, I had issues. However, those issues had nothing to do with the product itself. I had issues getting my M-CARD activated successfully through Verizon Fios. Once the M-CARD was properly manually activated, I no longer had any issues. This product allowed me to eliminate having a STB at my house. I have two of these devices racked in my basement. Between the two, I have the equivalent of six set-top boxes. I am able to watch all of my Verizon Fios channels (400+) on my phones, tablets, televisions, and computers. You will need either a Amazon FireStick or Roku to watch your channels on your television, as the HDHomerun App is not in the app store.

  • Best hardware to replace TiVo hardware

These devices can be used with a variety of software - Plex Live TV & DVR, Channels DVR, and the HDHomeRun DVR. None of these are free (beyond a free trial); you can use Channels itself to watch stuff but may need to pay for the app. I'm using these with Plex and Channels to record, since I've found the Bolt hardware too flaky (I've had a bunch of them die - fried hard drive - taking all my recorded shows with them.) Using these, with DVR from Plex or Channels, lets me save my shows to a RAID drive. Much safer!
