About this product

Product Information

Nine-time NBA Champion coach Phil Jackson knows all about being in the spotlight-about high-profile, high-pressure seasons coaching gigantic personalities through adversity and controversy in the middle of a media hothouse in which every move is another headline, another installment in the soap opera. But nothing-not six championships with the Bulls of Michael Jordan, Dennis Rodman and Scottie Pippen, not three previous championships with the Lakers of Shaq and Kobe-had quite prepared him for the only-in-Hollywood high-wire act of the Lakers' 2003-2004 season. In The Last Season, Jackson tells the full inside story of the season that proved to be the final ride for this great Lakers dynasty. From its beginnings in the off-season-with the signing of the future Hall-of-Famers Karl Malone and Gary Payton and the enormous expectations it created, and the bombshell news of the felony sexual assault charges against Kobe Bryant, one of the league's marquee superstars-Jackson describes the many challenges that arose during this turbulent season. Juggling enormous egos with enormous sums at stake, managing difficult relationships and public feuds, facing injuries, contract disputes, and team meltdowns, all in the shadow of the Kobe Bryant trial-slash-media circus, Phil Jackson somehow guided his team through to its fourth NBA Finals in his five years as its coach. There, finally, his team ran out of road, a failure Jackson examines with the same deep honesty and wisdom he brings to bear on the rest of this amazing season. Few seasons in memory can rival this one for drama, and fewer coaches rival Phil Jackson in the ability to write about it with such wisdom and clarity. The combination has produced, in The Last Season, a book of tremendous human drama and timeless appeal, rich in lessons about coaching and about life. With the honesty and insight that are his hallmarks, one of the most successful coaches in the history of basketball offers his personal account of a season like no other-the extraordinary ride of the 2003-2004 Los Angeles Lakers

AOK. Item as described, reasonable condition (as described), excellent price, reasonable packing and shipping time, no problems. Thanks. (Sorry, I don't do star ratings when some are automatic, as it's unfair to buyers to have eBay pre-empt any of the scores. You should complain to eBay, as your star ratings would have been very high.) I can't rate the product until I read it. It's unfair for eBay to require a product rating in order to send feedback! The guys at eBay are heavily into control.

  • An Excellent Book, Let See If History Repeats Itself!!!

It takes a lot for me to give a book an excellent rating but this one deserved it. It was recommended to me by a fellow basketball fan. I had always found Phil Jackson to be an intriguing person. How can you take a bunch of stars and make the chemistry he has done. This book will even make you think about the current craziness going on in the NBA. I admit, I am not keen on the lakers team overall, but enjoyed the story behind it. You don't have to be a lakers fan to enjoy this book. He even throws some facts about former bulls players that will amaze you. He tells his story and sticks with it. This is a great book for sports fans, lakers fans, bulls fans, and overall basketball fans! Highly recommended, can't wait to read the other books.

  • Book review

This is one of the best sports books I have ever read. As an avid NBA fan I wanted a book to give me a honest inside look into the NBA, and Phil Jackson's Last Season was just the book. The man is honest and leaves no nothing out. He is honest about himself else well as others. The book highlights the good and bad side to the NBA and shares with the fans what we would never know. Although I'm not a Laker fan, it was sad to read about their loss in the Finals to the Detroit Pistons. So often we only think about the winner and forget what the loser go through, and also how much they prepare to get to that last game. This is a must read for all NBA fans. I hope he has a book out about the 2007-2008 season.

  • Great Book. Phil Jackson don't retire!

I like this book because Phil Jackson is very transparent. He explains a lot of concepts and topics in depth. I really enjoyed it and I highlighted a ton of stuff in it. I like his little nuggets of basketball and life knowledge that he weaves into the fabric of the storyline.

  • The best gift for an NBA fan

My brother say that he want to buy for himself, because he is a big NBA fan. (But he don't like order from internet.) According to my brother this book is very intresting, and required to everything who like this GAME. So I buy to him for christmas, because I think it is a perfect gift for an NBA fan. (from Hungary)

  • Good read for nba fans

i like to read basically any nba inside stuff. especially about the lakers. this is a must read for all laker fans. Gives an interesting read of how a championship team with 4 future hall of famers struggled all the way through the championship finals and then lost to detriot pistons in the finals. Its like a brain dump of phils mind. I liked that.
