One of the BEST!
This is not my favorite movie - it is second only to Somewhere in Time starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. Both films are based on the same idea of a man falling in love with a woman from the past. But this one takes a different turn from most movies in this genre - there is no actual time travel. Rather, the communicate through letters in a special antique desk. Watching the movie, you don't care if it's plausable or not - you will be so wrapped up in the story and the love that it will become your only focus. I owned this movie previously and gave it to a friend when she wanted it so badly. It was hard to give up but friendship means so much to me. Ever since I gave it up, I've been looking for another copy. It's become such a collector's item the the price keeps going ... The Love Letter
I am not really into "chick flicks" but I have to tell you, this one is a must. You would have to have a heart of stone not to like this one. THe story line is great and touching, and it is really refreshing to be able to watch a movie without the incessant profanity blasting in your ears, or watching blatant sexual moves. You come away with a warm, gentle feeling. AS an aside, my landlord has a desk exactly like the one in the movie..think I will go hunt for the secret drawer. WHo knows...just like the hero in the story..maybe I'll find the love of my life. A truly great flick and worth every penny you pay for it and then some. I would place this in my all time favorite romantic movies. Filled with time travel, history, romance, drama as well good character study. I recommend this to all history/romantic movie collectors.
