I want to like this book, but it is falling short.
I bought this history curriculum hoping the "story-like" writing would be well received by my 4 children. We are on lesson 4. It is not as exciting as I would have liked. The worksheets, which I purchased separately, are very monotonous. If not for the answers in the teacher book, also bought separately, I would have to prepare the sheets ahead of time. The maps are also missing important information. To compensate for these shortcomings, I use the information in the teacher/answer pages during my teaching and also print addition maps so the children have a clearer idea of where things were happening. I am hoping these are a few "kinks" we can work through. I really want to like this book so I am giving it a chance. It is not for younger children unless you are going to write out ... The set-up of the history lessons themselves can be long and boring. The extra study for the older children is too extensive for one lesson, especially after having already completed the "regular" lesson. If I had held the book in my hands before buying it, I probably would not have purchased it. I hate writing that, but it is true.

My son was dreading having to take American History his junior year. He has always enjoyed World History but found American History boring. After searching many different curricula, I ran across "All American History." We used both volumes one and two. After completing a few lessons, my son announced to me that for the first time he was enjoying American History. He felt that this book presented more interesting information that what is most textbooks, and it is written in a style that is engaging. There is quite a variety of supplemental activities and research that can be assigned, as well as suggestions for further reading. I believe that my son got a very comprehensive education in American History, and it was an added benefit that he enjoyed it.My son was dreading having to take American History his junior year. This curriculum works GREAT for multiple ages or individuals. The Teacher Guide is full of ideas to enrich and flesh out your history program. Lists of books to read, activities to do (such as cook food from time period, draw things from the time period, oral reports on people or inventions in history) the possibilities are endless. Can bring it up to high school level by assigning written papers or bring it lower to elementary ages too. I highly recommend.
