mish-mash mayhem
Start with an incredible miscasting of Kathy Ireland as a kid-- a California beach girl who doesn't fit as a beach girl, who wears oversized glasses, badly fitted and slouchy clothes, is inept, clumsy, and has a voice that verges on painfully whiny. Now that you have a totally unlikeable protagonist, add a bizarrely bad "center fo the Earth" Atlantis, with people that make no sense, actions that make even bizarre seem normal, and-- for some reason-- a story that repeatedly contradicts itself, flounders, and appears to have been forgotten at times. With a much younger lead, smaller and without the horrible voice, it might have barely squeaked by as a PG feature-- with less clothing it might have been a campy R rated parody of some strange fiction category. It just doesn't make sense, and ... This movie was only barely tolerable with Mystery Science Theater 3000 making fun of it constantly, the Australian accent on a british character really topped it all. Dig down far enough and maybe we can bury this movie.
