Synopsis
From one of America's best known foreign correspondents, an eye-opening account of the ascendancy of the European Union as a global superpower and rival to the United States. The European Union, from its beginnings as an experiment in statecraft, has rapidly emerged as a resounding success, yet Americans have so far managed to ignore the geopolitical revolution under way across the Atlantic. Reid shows how quietly - and not so quietly - Europe is developing itself into an economic, political and cultural powerhouse., From one of America's best known foreign, correspondents, an eye-opening account of the, ascendancy of the European Union as a global, superpower and rival to the United States. Now comprising 25 nations and 450 million citizens, the EU has more people, more wealth, and more votes on every international body than the United States. It eschews military force but offers guaranteed health care and free university educations. And the new "United States of Europe" is determined to be a superpower. Tracing the EU's emergence from the ruins of World War II and its influence everywhere from international courts to supermarket shelves, T. R. • Ebay! What incentive do I have to help you make money?

With the EU and China quietly taking over economically, it's good for Americans to keep informed as to what's going on overseas and TR Reid's "United States of Europe" helps to fill that information gap. Now, when we're no longer a major force in the world because of all the debt we're carrying due to fighting pointless wars abroad, at least we'll have some of the answers as to why.

  • Opinionated

This book was okay. It could have flowed a bit better and the author is a bit opinionated being from America he was more for the European thoughts on America
