Received unit in about 31/2 days. Fedex didn't treat the shipping box very nice, but the packing protected the gen. Filled it with 30Wt non detergent oid, and did a four hour break in with no load. then ran it for one hour with some load, then ran it with a 15000 btu travel trailer AC, a TV ,a stereo all the LED lights and a vent fan. The unit took the load with no problems. Being from China it is light weight, as all things from China are. but in this case that that maybe an asset , the unit weighs less than 100 Lbs. The unit started on the second pull. Well worth what I payed for it. I would give it a 4.5, deduct .5 for light weight materalsReceived unit in about 31/2 days. Not Inverter Quiet
This generator makes the same amount of noise as a non inverter, 69db. Inverter quiet is miss leading. Made in China and leaked oil right from the start. You can find this same generator with the same 69db on e bay not claiming to be inverter quiet.

I bought this to have some means of running the freezer, some fans and a few lights if needed. I live in the south where hurricane season means we generally have no storms at all or a storm that can obliterate the grid leaving us without power for days. There was no expectation that this would run the whole house but even a few watts can make a huge difference over having none at all The AC is not clean by any standard, meaning it's okay for lights and motors but not computers and TV's. It can certainly provide power to run delicate electronics but they won't be happy about it. You need a quality inverter for that, and now that the negatives are out of the way I'll get to the positives. This generator came packed well and dry. If the wheel kit is optional them get it. The generator usually starts between 1 and 3 pulls depending on how it was last shut down. It runs well and the one I have puts out 123 volts as verified by the meter on the panel and a multimeter. Mine will be babied and petted like a family pet because it's very likely that it will sit unused, except for monthly warm-ups or until we have a power outage, and then I want it to be ready to run at 100% for as long as needed. I ran mine for 2 hours and then drained the oil to eliminate any unwanted particles from the crankcase, then filled it with Royal Purple 30W full synthetic and placed it in the storeroom. It powers 15A motors and compressors with ease and I can still have a normal conversation from 15 feet away which is quiet enough for me. There is nothing more that I can add that hasn't already been posted elsewhere other than to stress that this is NOT a generator for powering your entire house or electronic equipment. However, it is good when used as designed which is to provide plenty of power for pumps, freezers, lights and fans. I'm sure it would run a window AC unit but check your air conditioner's power requirements before doing so. One thing I wish it had is an hour meter to track run time between oil changes. With such infrequent use I wouldn't know in 6 months or six years when it was last serviced so I bought an AC hour meter for it and mounted the bracket below the frame above the pull start. The hour meter runs anytime the volt meter does which will make it easy to keep up with maintenance. I used a 2" round one that I purchased off Ebay for ten bucks.

Solid backup generator...with quirks
Bought because main generator in my RV needs major engine repair and parts might be slow in coming. The DuroMax DS4000S/3300w generator is very solid. Included tools are of marginal use as you need a lot more leverage than these small wrenches affords. No biggie, have plenty of tools to handle the few bolts needing loosening or removal. Oil filling is a challenge but included funnel & clear tubing make it easier. Problem is the fill hole is at the very bottom area si if generator is on floor/ground it is challenging for sure. Then when you remove tube oil WILL flow out until you get plug/dipstick back in place. I'll confirm you should change the oil several times during the first 20-25hrs operation. The first in order to help clear out any metal bits in engine left over from manufacturing. It also gets dirty fast. So pay attention to everything the owner's manual mentions. Baby it and I'm betting you'll get years of reliable use. Now, the oh so "special" act of changing the oil. PUT GENERATOR ON BENCH THEN IN BLOCKS or you will have no way to drain oil into a dish or whatever. I'm going to find a bit of tubing to give additional working room. If you can't put it up higher to access find a low dish to hold about 20oz of used oil. Those are not short comings just gottchas needing attention. Starting can't be easier. Started first pull then every pull. Just don't work to hard or try to pull really forcefully as if it won't start right away you missed closing the choke, opening fuel valve, turning on the actual engine button on the front. But an easy start for sure, at least so far. It's not really heavy at about 110lbs with fuel & oil. Easier to pick up thanks to it's cage. Consider adding wheels & handle kit. I learned that at my age now 100lbs is MUCH heavier than it used to be. Did gravity increase? Electrical connections on front are, not great. The standard 20A/120v receptacles are, well, crappy. The vibration of generator will slowly push any plug out. So consider using the L5-30 three prong twist locking receptacle instead. Plus that is the full 30A connection if plugging your RV in directly. Sound is fair. Not super quiet but not high pitched obnoxious loud either. A bit of distance and a couple boards to strategically baffle & deflect the sound waves will make it effectively quieter. Were i to buy again with another $100-$150 in my budget, i paid $229+tax, i would look at the E4400 model instead. Still this is a no regret purchase. It's going to be a backup, gives me about 50% of electricity my 6.6Kw generator produces. I can yse convection/microwave oven or one rooftop A/C unit plus keep house batteries charged. What more could I ask for?

I purchased this generator because having emergency back up power for northern New England winters is a good idea. I kept putting it off because of price and never being truly motivated to get one except those times of the year when generators are hard to come by and command top dollar. At $200 and generally good consumer reviews, I finally ran out of reasons to procrastinate. Besides the absurdly low price, the most enticing thing about this little generator is the surprisingly positive user reviews it has received on Amazon and Youtube. I’m happy to report my experience thus far has also been positive. After removing the shipping brace, adding gas and oil (and the optional, extra cost wheel kit), this thing fired up on the very first pull. That's kind of amazing when you ... It did run very rough for the first half a minute until I realized the choke isn't necessary for more than a few seconds if you’re starting it in warm weather. After shutting off the choke, it settled into a nice mechanical purr. I let it run for about 20 minutes and plugged in a few appliances just to confirm it was actually generating electricity. It's surprisingly quiet for a budget generator. Not whisper quiet like those $1000 Honda and Yamaha inverter generators, but noticeably less noisy than my neighbor's 8000 watt generator. This unit's modest power output is an acceptable tradeoff for its small size and fuel efficiency. I live in a small one bedroom dwelling and my emergency electrical needs are very modest. I understand that a mid winter power outage is not the time to run an electric clothes dryer and a microwave oven. Dislikes begin with the fact that it’s made in China. I'm not philosophically against Chinese products like some people are, but I think critics do have a point that this is not a high grade unit. Back in 1997 we had a nasty ice storm up here in Maine and some people were without power for over 2 weeks in the dead of winter. I’d hate to rely on a cheapie imported generator running 24/7 for 14+ days. Am I saying that this little Durostar couldn’t do it? No, but I hope I never have to find out. My user review, like many, has to be taken with a grain of salt because I haven't had to use this unit yet in a true emergency. But I am encouraged by the level of quality and performance I can see thus far. I give it 4 stars, withholding that 5th star merely because it hasn't yet been put to the test. A few tips: 1) Contrary to some reviews, buying a long necked funnel for adding crankcase oil isn't necessary; the unit comes with a very nice little funnel for this exact purpose, along with a double sided screw driver, metric spanner and a spark plug socket wrench. I wasted $6 because I didn't realize that. 2) I read somewhere about a guy who purchased something like 10 of these generators for some kind of business. He found an almost 7-fold increase in service life using synthetic versus conventional motor oil. Synthetic certainly doesn't cost 7x as much and even if it did, this unit only uses 20oz at a time. If synthetic merely doubled the generator's useful life, it would be well worth it. 3) Invest in a heavy gauge extension cord with a NEMA L5-30R male plug on one end and regular female outlets on the other. It'll allow so you use this generator's 30 amp receptacle. Or do what I did and buy a $20 10-gauge extension cord at Harbor Freight and splice a NEMA plug onto that.
