A camera for the outdoors
Most of the reason why I purchased the camera was cause it has the ability to do anything, I am a very outdoorsy person and so I needed a camera that could keep up. The pictures it takes are of good quality, but you have to remember its just a point and shoot camera. It does have some cool features that I still need to play with yet, but all in all a good camera for the money. I bought this camera to replace the Tough 6010 that crapped out on me after nearly 4 years. I use the Tough line of cameras for work in an industrial setting. The 6010 went through allot of abuse dropped and banged around. Rain and cold nothing bothered it until it began to have software issues. The 8010 is just as tough so far no problems. Excellent pictures easy to use features much improved zoom capabilities. And Macro feature is a big plus. Only issue is the proprietary battery. That said since they made it so it can charged via USB it's not as big of an issue as the 6010. Olympus also went to the standard SD card, Big plus. Not as cool as I expected, but a good deal for the money
I bought this product because my old camera broke down and I always wanted a camera that I could go under water. The camera looks like its name "tough", although I haven't drop it yet, I can't tell how tough it is. It has really nice looking features, like background music for your recordings, and other nice things that you might want or check out in a video. On the other hand, it is kind of heavy, my tripod can't handle it without additional help, and it takes toooooooo long to focus. The other thing I didn't like was the 2 lock system the camera has to isolate from water and dirt, It should be only one, you might forget to lock the second one, dive into a pool and, bye bye camera. The primary reason I bought the Stylus Tough is that I needed a water proof camera. I do a lot of picture taking and a lot of Fly Fishing and my good DSLR is not waterproof. The Stylus Tough is very water proof. Picture quality is no too bad for a point and shoot but it has a hard time with high contrast situations, particularly if the subject is back lit. Controls require a lot of button pushing and changes in settings can be slow. If your subject is changing rapidly you may not get the shot. Left on Automatic everything it's not too bad. This is the second water proof Stylus I have owned. The earlier model was a good water proof camera but too very poor pictures, I gave it away.
