    Big storage in a small package

    This device provides lots of storage in a very compact and easy to operate package. Just plug it into an available USB port and you're all set. The drive is FAT32 formatted and works with Windows, Mac, and Linux. One small caveat: the drive is powered from the USB bus and does not use an external power supply. While that is convenient and adds to its simplicity, it can be problematic for computers that limit the power available on the USB bus. As a workaround, Toshiba offers a special cable that plugs into two USB ports, drawing power from both. The cable costs about $7 postage paid. For this reason also, the drive must be plugged directly into the computer and not into a USB hub. I tried it both with a bus powered hub and with an externally powered one and it wouldn't work with either.

    Get a Western Digital that is formatted as a FAT32.

    When I first got it I could only hook it to my computer and that's it. I wanted something for my computer, ps3, and car usb. Get a Western Digital that is formatted as a FAT32. When your external hard drive is formatted as a FAT32 you should be able to do more with it. I used a program to change my Toshiba to a FAT32 and I still can't use it with my car. I can use it with my ps3 though.

    Toshiba 250 GB USB Hard Drive

    A good choice works with USB so it doesn't waste any unnecessary power and automatically shuts down when you shut your computer down. Also this unit is extrememly small & portable so it can practically fit anywhere at anytime. Enjoy & always remember to always make a back up of your back up on disk just incase your back up HD ever fails you. I learned that the hard way......

    Super on-the-go storage!!!

    Don't downplay the small size of this drive. It's USB 2.0 interface allow super fast transfer speeds with nearly silent operation. It also includes backup software for both Windows and Macintosh operating systems. This was a great deal for me and will help in protecting my data for years to come. I highly recommend this drive to anyone who is looking for reasonably priced backup or extra storage.

    Portable Hard Drive.

    I like this product because it is so easy to use on a laptop. Very convienient to store extra data etc. This item frees my laptop from many files. It's great. Carlos
