    I upgraded the freewheel on my son's bike to a wider range 14-34t for easier hill climbing, but the basic Shimano rear derailleur that came on his bike was not suitable for this new freewheel. This inexpensive Altus M310 is perfect, more ridgid and precise than his old derailleur and shifts very nicely! Best inexpensive rear derailleur on the market!

    This is a very nice shifter, and a relief to replace my old one! The old unit was slightly bent out of shape, and had a lot of rust and wear on it. The new one fits perfectly in place and moves very smoothly. Same part, genuine Shimano Altus.

      Correct chain length for proper operation

      Those complaining about chain slop, ghost shifting, and a weak spring, might need to replace or shorten your chain. I have a 28/38/48 triple crankset, with an 11-28 8 speed cassette. Chain has been shortened to 112 links. The cage should be slightly less than vertical in the mid range position on both the crankset and cassette. Select 4th gear on your cassette, with the middle chainring on the crank. Shorten the chain accordingly to achieve the correct tension.

      Nicely made basic RD with really big 13T and 15T pulleys

      Do a web search for RD-310 specifications before bidding. My application is 2x8 speed road bike use, and the 13T & 15T big pulleys on this derailleur are good for my application. But the medium cage 65mm may not be suitable for your really wide range 3x8 or 3x7 MTB bikes that have large tooth count differences. Product came well greased and ready for install. I like it.
