Costs less. No unnecessary temperature sensor.

You are buying something without a temperature sensor, but it is seldom needed unless cooking small batteries with a large panel. This particular application was for a boat, in a cold climate, with big batteries, so no need for extra sensors that only add costs. The power "consumer" connection (power output) is more of a novelty, I think, than a real useful thing. It is set to come on at a certain voltage, so you can have a night light that comes on when the panel cools down to 12.6v (settable up to 13.0v). Then there is a timer, so you can set it to turn off after one or more hours (up to 24H). There is also a low voltage setting to have it turn off if the battery gets low (9v to 11v). The consumer connection does not output enough current for say a 400W inverter though, so it is best ...

    Doesn't float charge!!!

Doesn't go into float charging at all. It just does't! Float charging - otherwise known as trickle charging - is important on lead acid batteries. The controller applies 14.4 volts to charge up the battery. Once charged it is supposes to drop down to 13.6 (programmable) volts to maintain the charge. If it doesn't and continues to apply 14.4 volts it will eventually fry the battery. I read some reviews on A other seller's web site and there are many complaints about this. I should have been more careful when buying this. So this device could be used to charge a battery to full but not for long term maintenance. Apparently all the versions of this design are the same. Mine was a 30 amp.

  • Destroyed my battery

This controller destroyed my deep cycle marine flooded lead acid battery in 3 months of use. I have 4 charge controllers that look exactly like thus from various sellers and time periods from amazon and ebay. Normally the controllers charge up to 14.4v dyring high sunlight and it stays at 14.4 meaning the battery is full and solar power can be passed through directly to load, but thus one rapidly fluctuated volts blinking constantly 14.4 14.6 14.1 13.8 13.7 13.9 14.2 14.4 14.6 and kept going up and down back and forth constantly between 13.7 and 14.4 even with no load, meaning the battery was being incorrectly/over charged. I had to buy a new battery and this controller did the same thing to the new battery. When I put one of my other charge controllers that look exactly like this one ...

  • What's not to like?

I bought this CC for a specific purpose, to re-charge my truck battery daily from sitting for several days (I ride a motorcycle most of the time) without being started. I have 24/7 running front and rear video cameras and a RANGE controller plugged into the service port to manage the AFM in my Silverado. If I leave my truck for more than 1 or 2 days the battery needs a boost to start the truck. Enter this CC. I bought a 100w (a VERY loosely defined spec) flexible solar panel which with this CC will keep my battery up to not need a boost. I like the LCD panel as at a glance you can tell the PV charge current and battery voltage. At best I found my PV will produce under 5A so even if this "30A" CC is actually way over rated it should not suffer from my moderate needs. Could it ...
