The Sony a6400 is the Best Camera I've Ever Used!!!

I've been using digital cameras for almost 20 years. I went from a variety of early point and shoot to a Nikon D40 to some of the early Sony Mirrorless cameras (NEX-5N and NEX-5R). When my 5R was stolen last year, I went through multiple cameras trying to find one I liked - I tried a Panasonic GX85 (loved the outside pictures, really struggled to take good pics indoors), a FujiFilm XT-20 and then X-T30 (loved the colors, but indoor pictures never appeared to be properly in focus). After I wasn't satisfied with any of those, I really considered just going back to a point and shoot. However, based on some recommendations on DPReview, I tried the Sony a6400. This is by far the best camera I have ever owned. The AF system on it is unbelievable. Pictures look great in any lighting I have tried ...

  • Top critical review

Images sharp in the center and fairly poor in the corners and on the edges.

I shot the lens at 18mm f8 ISO 100 on my a6000 and the center of the image is very sharp at 100%. The corners are fairly poor and the edges are not much better. I compared shooting the same image with my PZ16-50 and the corners are slightly better on the 16-50. I guess that's to be expected on a $500 kit lens with this kind of focal range. I guess I'm kind of disappointed in the lens. I bought it for the range and stabilization.

  • Good specs and well priced lens, perfect for travel

The lens feels well built compared to my other plastic lenses. The size and weight are very good for the focal length. It is sharp and does not have noticable optical problems. I am impressed by the value. I recommend it for a general use while traveling, the zoom range is flexible and I don't have to switch lenses in the moment. I use another small lens for night.

  • Outstanding Zoom Lens

This is an amazingly good lens. It is tack sharp throughout the zoom range. Learn how to use this lens and for many people it will be the only lens they will ever need for a Sony APS=C camera! It is not terribly fast, but by simply increasing the ISO it will give excellent results. It is a real home run for Sony.

  • Pricey, but OK

Very pricey lens although widely thought not to be one of Sony's sharpest and best. I find it comparable with some of my older Nikkor lenses, though. I'm using it on my Sony a 6300 for video and for this, it's just fine. I wish the widest aperture remained constant throughout the zoom range. One bad note: I think that the focus (on manual) shifts when zooming from 135mm to 18mm, so the old technique of establishing sharp focus at the longest focal length for accuracy isn't working here.
