This mouse, while an old design, is ideal for retro computer builds where a USB-only mouse may not be desirable, or as a more inexpensive alternative to modern gaming mice like Logitech's own G502 Proteus. Like most Logitech optical mice, it has what is called a "perfect sensor" with no Z tracking or angle snapping, and the 1800 dpi should be enough for any monitor smaller than 4K. Its only weaknesses are that its rather tall and fat design can make it a bit less comfortable than say, a G502 or a Razer Diamondback for people with small hands or who use the claw grip, and the 1800 dpi limit may not be enough for users with 4K displays.

I've owned several MX518s purchased from authentic Logitech sources but this mouse feels different. The silver design face covering the mouse is cut poorly so you can feel a jagged edge all around the mouse and buttons. The scroll wheel is misaligned in the housing and rubs, making it harder to use. Also, the scroll wheel is made of an inferior rubber that permanently deforms if you press your fingernail into it -- the older mice use a much more durable material. I loved the original MX518 but this mouse is disappointing.

Lower quality than the original. Side buttons often triggered twice for one press. Feedback when scrolling with the wheel was also significantly less than the original. Scroll wheel was also recessed into the body by ~1mm or so making it much harder to press. Same shape as the original though so I used it to replace the worn out body of my original while keeping the original electronics.

I'm on my third MX518 in 10 years or so. I wear them out, or break them rage-quitting, lol. But they are great for FPS gaming. I've tried a lot of Razor mice and found them to be incredibly oversensitive, including their buttons. And their profile simply doesn't fit my hand. The MX518 fits great. The extra long cord is always a plus as well. Another nice feature is that no special software is needed for all of the buttons to function correctly in Linux or Windows. Take it out of the box and adjust dpi on the fly. I hope they never stop making them.

I love this mouse! I can play games all day and it doesn't give my hand cramps like a regular Microsoft mouse does. Thank you!!
