Jeff Daniels’ best ever
Though more known for his comedy roles, Jeff Daniels’ portrayal of George Washington at the battle of Trenton in The Crossing is spectacular. He brings Washington into a real flesh & blood man, not an icon. IMO, this is Daniels’ best role ever!

"THE CROSSING" Pros If truly ever there was 1 of many, Jeff Daniel's George Washington "is Sue Generis" ;These soldiers they truly worked 1 on this Christmas Day. Cons: Redcoats. The Title Is: "The Crossing" For these soldiers it is a little of a 24 hour endurance test,,``in a cold place up the Delaware without supplies. 1 hr 40 min. Nothing aggravating at all. Not over "colonialized" in dramatics. The Final Curtain: Very rewarding! George Washington(Jeff Daniels)convincingly sways his peers to cross the Delaware to confront the Hessian outpost at Trenton."impossible~?~".. Getting there 51% of the battle. Director "Robert Harmon" ironically shadowing past films - of today's: "Stone Cold" ;& going back a bit are echos from "Nowhere To Run". In Harmons film "Nowhere To Run", Van Damme's ... George Washington in will turn to his fellow leaders and not the booze.(based on a true story) George Washington(Jeff Daniels), after some dispersal of retreat attempts to reorganize and renew efforts of the American Revolution, just prior to his historic "crossing the Delaware River" to the Trenton outpost. The Setting is basically out in Nowhereland,"out in the sticks" or the "Boonies" you could say; the farms and backwoods of the Colonial Subdivions, on cold winter forest trails along the bank of the Delaware. This is where George Washington in confidence will turn to his fellow leaders with a next to impossible plan. Washington will tell his fellow leaders while his troops have camp in the freezing colonial New England winter weather, "True,an army without supplies should not endure; I propose that we endure so that we would persevere" Over all a pretty good film with an authentic colonial appearance. A quiet well mannered "APPEAL TO HEAVEN". Records show clearly to be close in trivia to these battle statistics. Unable to verify:A "~Don't~Tread~On~Me!~" is carried into final battle aside a second soldier flying the colors of the stars and stripes moving to fast to verify star formation. You may see this annually on the "The Crossing" on the A&E Network, but you may have to wait until Christmas.

The Crossing
This is a condensed version of Washingtons' attack on Trenton which turned the war in his favor and I feel an overlooked and important part of our history. I had originally seen this movie when it first came out on the A&E channel and thought the acting, costumes and events mirrored the original events as they actually occured. There was only one part where some off color language was used that I thought was unnecessary and irrelevant to the story itself but otherwise thought the movie would be acceptable and educational to all audiences. To date, this movie starring Jeff Daniels is by far his best endeavor at a dramatic role and was really impressed at his ability to pull this off. Almost superb
I really like the cast and the story until the rewritten history about the battle. Would it have hurt to add another 15 minutes of follow up to the battle? How about a mention of future President James Monroe nearly dying and the two units unable to cross the river leaving Washington vulnerable? Those little complaints are totally overwhelmed by the fine work of Jeff Daniels and the rest of the cast. The Crossing
A very good enactment of the desperate times of the Revoluntionary War. The American Armies retreat from early defeats and the way G. Washington looks at the way the army is falling apart after the retreat from New York. A mere 2,000 remain with him just before Christmas of 1776 and the action he decides to take to attack Trenton as a gamble. Knowing that a lack of action will doom the Revolution he decribes his attack to his officers and some close associates. His scouting of the Trenton area and the reunion of his forces for the attack are all described. A very good "historical insite" into the entire campaign with a mention of the follow up victory also is included in the narration at the end of the movie.
