    not what was advertised.

    The sensor was advertised as detecting ferrous material (iron) It does not it is only sensitive to magnets. Some hall efect based sensors contain their own magnets and the presence of iron improves the magnetic path betweed hall sensor and internal magnet. This is the type I anticipated.
