SHARS Knurling tool - Excellent replacment for the standard knurler included in tool post kits
I had recently used the knurler that came with my lathe tool post kit and was surprised by the poor the poor pattern and also by vibration created by the pressure it created on my 12x36 lathe. I have several SHARS products and when I saw they had a scissor type knurler, I ordered one to try it out. It arrived and I immediately cleaned it and installed it in my tool holder, set it up for a handle I was turning for a machinist hammer I was making. WOW, what a huge difference. Precise, consistent, deep pattern that looked amazing. I would/will recommend this tool to my machinist buddies. Excellent quality, price, and function. I wish I had bought it sooner.
I make parts the require knurling 3/8" dia aluminum rod about 5" long. I have been using the old style knurling tool with 2 wheels the pushes into the part. Anyone that tries this knows that causes the rod to flex in the middle and gives uneven knurling depth. The adjustment process for this takes me about 20 minutes to get a good looking 5" knurl. I have only tried the new Shars tool once. After set up which was no more difficult that the old tool, the process took me about 3 minutes and I got a better knurl. Very good qaulity tool
I was able to make a very good knurl on the first try and all the others the same size were the same. I have always hah a hard time knurling with old type.I have been in the trade for 40 plus years. This is very easy to use.
