  • Sound Quality is not What I Expected

The iPod 5th Gen is considered to be one of the best iPod’s ever made by Apple. However upon listening to it for the first time, I found that it was no better than my 7th Gen, in fact possibly worse. The sound quality was less than satisfactory, to say the least, even when playing large ALAC files. Songs with an abundance of instruments playing at the same time felt quite compressed and distorted. Everyone is always on about “The 5th Gen’s Wolfson DAC has the best sound out of all the iPods.” Or “the quality is amazing, you won’t regret getting one of these.” I think all those people have either never listened to high quality audio, or have never used anything better than their iPod. Now I do have to admit, the shear amount of upgrades available for this thing alone make it a tempting little device. But I just can’t condone spending $100 (if you’re lucky) on a now 20 year old iPod that has the worst DAC I’ve ever listened to. Overall, while the form factor is great, and the upgrades are interesting, I say your better off just using your phone, or if you need a separate device for music, than an iPod Touch, Nano, or an old iPhone will work a-okay.

  • Great product.

If you have heard of the Apple iPod, then I'll let you know it's great! This one is perfect for upgrades. It's easy, if you have a little bit of skill.

  • A classic music player

This is a replacement gift for a good friend of mine. It is simple and does the job. Definitely better than playing music on a smart phone.

  • Classic music with no internet connection

It is nice product in very good conditions for 12 years old device. Battery lasts actively for 4 - 5 hours. Good for jogging.
