Too much effort into making it look like something changed.
School textbooks, as a general rule, are edited often--even if nothing new has been discovered. They are obligated to give you the illusion that the purchase of the new edition is necessary. This book is no exception. Nothing has changed in geometry in the last 100 years? So in order to sell you, yet a fatter and glossier edition, they need to add all kinds of noisy comments and sidebars that are so confusing that you can't tell what is being said. I have both editions and this is just a re-hash of the same book, shuffled around enough to give the illusion of change. They added the "Core" guidelines but the don't seem to follow them at all. It is a great book that a greedy industry made it confusing. The original text was very well written and understandable, the added confusing sidebars and notes make it too hard to understand.
