  • Pricey but worth it

Just does what I need it to do. A lot of older motherboards don't have a newer UEFI Bios which is needed to boot off of a typical M.2 NVMe drive naitively without using a workaround like loading a bootloader off of a second drive, but the 950 Pro is able to show up as an IDE drive in the older legacy Bios, then does a hand-off to enter NVMe mode when you start loading your OS if the OS your using has NVMe support. If you have M.2 NVMe support on your motherboard with M.2 Slots/PCIe 3.0, go with the 960 Evo since it's cheaper and faster. But for older motherboards with no naitive NVMe boot support and PCIe 2.0 slots that will limit the max speed to ~2Gb/s anyway, these are the way to go.

  • Lives up to hype

I replaced my 850 with this guy as my boot drive. Using the samsung migration tool it was a painfree experience. I am using this in my gigabyte ga-z170x gaming 7 and it booted right up with no issues. As the other reviews state I am getting better than states throughput but my iops are lower than the max they stated. I am nit sure what blocksize they used for their marketing material but regardless it's stupid fast!

  • Huge upgrade from SATA ssd

Ive been using a vertex 3 120gb ssd as a boot drive for a few years now wanted to replace it with something higher capacity and faster. got this little thing in and installed a fresh version of windows 10 hit the power button and was very disappointed with performance at first. read and write speeds were very low I verified in device manager and bios nvme was selected for the drive. Having samsung phones in the past i know how important it is to use samsung specific drivers. updated to the latest nvme driver for the 960 evo and problem solved. This thing is amazingly fast especially if its your first pcie storage experience. here are the performance numbers coming from a z170 gigabyte gaming board and i5 - 6600k overclocked to 4.6ghz. Sequential Read 1367mb/s Write 591.38 4k Read 47.35mb/s Write 212.3mb/s Sequential 32q 1 thread Read 1640mb/s Write 585.4 Before the samsung driver was installed all read speeds were about half this and write speeds were about 25% of current numbers. Installing the driver i was able to actually see and feel the difference in system response. I highly recommend the drive if you can get if for a good price just remember to update that driver.

  • Great product just not yet for your average user

so it's a great item, takes some fiddling around and internet searching to get it to work since it is a new technology, great item but i can't get it to work up to the speed i am expecting in a benchmark but overall I can feel that it is definately a lot faster than ssd in general. great speed just plenty of hick ups that is not for your average user but the speed of this ssd is faster than a normal ssd in raid 0.

  • Superb performance - still overpriced

I really think this is a great component - is it worth double the going rate for your average SSD for the same capacity? I'm not so sure about that. But the numbers advertised are the numbers obtained so it depends on your budget and use case.

  • This is very fast potentially

This is very fast potentially but in certain cases it is not. I'm still testing. I do not know if it uses TRIM or has its own garbage collection system on chip. It seems to be much slower than you would expect for many, many random small reads or writes. I used a benchmark so I'm not sure if it is the method used by the benchmark or real world. Still very fast and I'm happy with it. Just not perfect. Maybe a firmware can improve this.

  • Super fast memory for the price!

Very happy with the speed, a little tricky to install the operating system and on top of that you need one of the latest MBs and/or an M.2 PCIe adapter (if your MB isn't equipped with one) in order to take advantage of the full speed. But the reward is a quick boot and fast response. Haven't had time to transcode some 4k movie clip yet.

  • Toward Fastest data access

I used Samsung 950 pro for fast data read/write instead of fast booting. My motherboad has two nvme ports, which allow to use raid 0 to double read/write speed. 5GB/s read speed is amazing with around $600 (2x$300), and aslo nvme ports save very precious pci slot for other purpose.

  • The best(and only) NVMe SSD with Legacy Support

I purchased the Samsung 950 Pro because it is the only NVMe SSD that supports legacy boot mode and Master Boot Record. I used Samsung Magician to copy over my Windows 8.1 installation to the new drive with ease. Unlike the newer NVMe SSDs, the 950 Pro shows up as an IDE drive in the BIOS when in Legacy Mode. The drive performs very well but gets hot under heavy workloads.

  • The Best Around

I was hesitant about purchasing this drive only because compatibility and installation seemed complex, but it was surprisingly simple. Now that it's installed, my PC boots up in 4 to 8 seconds. It was worth purchasing a motherboard that could support 32gbps M.2 NVMe.
