Charging port when bought doesn't work so well and I looked up how to fix and everyone with answer reviews seemed to have the same problem. love the quality and screen viewing and set up. easy! Works great but is very unfriendly to home repair.
Unit works great but if you intend to change the battery, charge port or other component later on after warranty expires forget it. The components are snapped into place from the front, the back is not removable, the Display + LCD is bonded together and if you are not experienced in repairing this your chance of prying it apart without breaking the display + LCD unit is slim to none. So best forget self repair as it is built to self destruct. I have worked on most Kindles and this is the most unfriendly to repair I have seen. Faster than a speeding bullet!
I bought a kindle several months ago when mine suddenly quit working. The one I bought was advertised on eBay as being the same as the one I replaced. Not even close.It took me a while to get used to the replacement but I still wanted my old one. I got this item a week ago Works fine and the screen is nice Battery life is good, and it is very thin and light. I bought it because I wanted to read books using text-to-speech. The text to speech though does not work perfectly, it runs the pages with no connection to the speech. This is very annoying because you have to stop all the time, and run the pages back. I love my Kindle HDX 3rd Gen til the port died
When my port broke on my original Kindle Fire, because of manufacturer's bad construction, Amazon gave me a great upgrade offer, and I got a brand new HDX 7", but no warranty was offered. I loved my HDX, and when it stopped charging just after 2 years of daily use, all they could offer was 20% off the "new" HD 8", which was a joke. It had half the processor and totally bad graphics. The only thing good was that it had two cameras, which this HDX doesn't have. Don't be fooled by the incorrect description because there is NO front-facing camera on this. You can use it for Skype, but have to turn it around to take a picture, without seeing what it is taking. Also, the HD doesn't allow mirror-imaging to my Kindle TV Fire Stick. So I ordered a repair contract here on E-bay for my old one, and I ordered this one with some flaws as a backup. Not sure why Amazon stopped making the HDX, but hopefully, it's to become a new model with two cameras!Verified purchase: Yes

Kindle Fire HDX vs. New Fire
Bought for five year old granddaughter. The 3rd generation Kindle Fire is far superior in quality than the new Fire models. Do a comparison yourself and you will see what I'm talking about. Processor speed, pixels, and everything including construction is much better than today's models. I bought a brand new Fire HD 8 for her originally, it lasted only a couple months before it broke. She had been using my Kindle Fire HDX 7 for years (when she came to visit) without an issue and it's still running strong. I bought her this used one (Like new) so she can take it home with her. They just seem indestructible to me. I purchased this tablet primarily because it was small and lightweight and also because of its high resolution screen. I like it very much except that the battery life is shorter than excepted. This HDX 7" and the HDX 8.9" are the best Kindles Amazon ever made. The PPI is 320 or more. The video picture is just outstanding. The new Kindle PPI are basically half of this. We owned a 1st Gen Kindle Fire and while it work for all our needs, it was SLOW and battery life was not all that great. The Fire HDX, cures all that. One small issue: the charging port is at an angle to the tablet potentially causing problem and difficulty depending on the cover/case being used.
