If others have the same problem, this is the way to do it.
It does a great job to amplify the TV output into my stereo receiver, otherwise without it I had to turn up the receiver and/or the TV's volume to100% just to hear what's being said from the Blu-ray movies. The TV's optical audio output is junk, so I use an adaptor to convert to RCA output jacks to the mic mixer mentioned, then to the receiver. I now have more than enough sound output from the receiver. I also had the same problem on my other sound system in the other room, it is also fixed with the same mic mixer, I have two the same models, and the same optical adaptor for both TV's.
