Got that old time rock and roll groove

I used the AC Tone for the first time at a gig this past weekend. I ran my Gretsch 6120 through it and both my tube amp and my Katana 50. It really rang out. It was just the sound I was looking for. Yes, I would rather have the Vox AC 30 but the AC Tone at $35 was an acceptable sub.

    Still messing with it

Youtube reviews of this pedal are great but it will not produce the same sound for you unless you have the same equipment they use. I have a Peavey Ranger 212 all tube combo and it sounds very twangy on it. I can't turn it up on the gain to where I want to because of a loud hiss. So bear in mind this pedal was intended to be used on a pa system or for direct recording. It has a built in pre amp that fights with the pre amp in your guitar amp. I have not tried it in the effects loop yet but I didn't want a pedal in my effects loop to start with. I have the American and it sounds great this one has to much twang in it. Computer type twangy sound not a good twang!

  • Great DI Pedal.

Love this Pedal and the "American" pedal. They are inexpensive Direct Boxes. I run my Multi-effects and Tube Processors thru this into my PC with great results. Allows you to EQ the Sound to your taste. Great Bargin!

  • A good back-up for my tube amp

I got this pedal to be a back up for my Crate V30 which is very Vox-like. The pedal does a good job of reproducing the sound of the V30 through a PA, so it looks like it would work as I wanted it to (but I have not yet played out with it). The only negative I have found is that it is very hissy with its gain turned up above 12 o'clock. But a little hiss is better than an amp with a blown tube!

  • Great VOX-voiced preamp in pedal form

First off, it's clear the earlier reviewer is doubling up on the his preamps by running this into the front end of his tube amp. This almost always results in shrillness, because of the duplication of the preamp phase. The fact that this (and similar Joyo pedals) has a preamp built in is not spelled out in the marketing of these pedals, but it makes a huge difference in how it should be used. Use this (or any similar Joyo "sound series" or Tech 21 character pedal) as your only preamp and bypass the preamp on your amp by going to the "effects return". With that said, this pedal sounds great. It does what it claims (Vox tone) and gives you plenty of control over the amount of gain and tone eq. The built-in cabinet simulator is sorta weak. It's good enough for clean tones, but it ...
