Good VS Evil
This is the last book of the Dark Is Rising Sequence. Like The Chronicles of Narnia, it is about the fight between good and evil. The book is written for middle school aged children, but if you like Chronicles of Narnia or The Lord of the Rings, you will probably like this book,too. Will is the last of the "Old Ones" to be born and has come into his powers on his twelfth birthday. Once before with the help of Merriman Lyon and The Lady, he has fought back the Dark. Now the Dark is rising for a final time, and the Old Ones must make a stand to protect mankind from falling into darkness forever. Although this book could be read separately from the other books, it is best read as the final episode to the sequence. The other books are: Over Sea, Under Stone, The Dark is Rising ... As with many good young adult fantasy series, The Dark is Rising series is focused on the seemingly ordinary 11 year old Will Stanton who goes from being the youngest member of his large family to an immortal "Old One" destined to fight evil. Susan Cooper borrowed from L'Engle's "A Wrinkle in Time" and J.K. Rowling borrowed from both when writing Harry Potter. The story is a classic tale of good vs. evil, darkness against light. Will has to find strengths within himself to overcome the forces ranged against him, and in so doing growing into the role he is destined fill. The writing style creates fully formed characters and situations that are internally consistent. Although the book uses a large vocabulary it should be within the range of an average 10 year old. The story is so ...
