Training monsters you really feel connected and involved, that you are responsible when they perform well/poorly. The game has no real end and could be played indefinitely, and I (a causal player) haven't ever been able to beat the highest level tournaments. There are some game braking bugs but so long as you look up strategy guides before going to Brillia or Goat (which have quests for legendary monsters Zhan and Joker, respectively) then you should be good. One of the best parts is that you can use and random CDs and DVDs you have around the house to get a new monster through a disc swapping feature.

Graphics- For good or bad, MR3 went with a cartoony cel-shaded look instead. The graphics are nothing special, but the monsters are animated well and it suits the gameplay well. Gameplay- The basic idea of the game is to take a monster (which are randomly generated from a real-world cd, dvd, or PS2 game) and from week to week, you raise it by deciding which training drills (which raise your monsters stats) to do, to rest, or to fight in a tournament. Actually raising your monsters stats is a repetitive process, but you feel directly responsible when it wins and when it loses, you often think, "Where did I go wrong?" Story- Not much here, but it's not that important. You want to become a great monster breeder, and some characters show up to help you. Sound- The music is the weak point of the game, it's cute, but repetitive. All of the monsters have a few different cries, and most of them suit the monster. Replayability- The game never really ends, you can raise monsters to your heart's content. There's tons of diffrent monsters to try and a nice multiplayer mode so you can play agaisnt your friends' monsters (if you have any that play MR3, that is) Overall- A little renovation, but still distinctly Monster Rancher. It's a hit or miss type deal, and I would try to rent or borrow a Monster Rancher game before spending a lot of money on it.Read full review
I bought this game for my daughter, she loves the entire series, MR-1,2,3,4. This game is perfect for children, it teaches them the responsibility of taking care of a monster ( raising it),battling it in competitions, taking it for adventures. It is a great RPG. I highly recommend it. However, there is one major fault with the Playstation 3 system and compatibility with this game. There is an easy fix, visit the Playstation website and download the newest updates for the PS3 by following the detailed instructions. This should take care of any compatibility issues. The game is great on the PS2 though, no problems.
I lost my original game. This game plays just as well. I love it!
