Previously I purchased the older version of this can light which I think was pretty good. However, there are some changes to the new model can light. The first thing you will notice is the selection switch on the box. It allows the user to select between the different light models. In this case, my old fixtures are the 30K, so I set the selector to 30K. What this does is match the light output with the old lights so they all put out the same uniform light intensity. I really like this feature, but I believe it increases the price of the unit. The first set of older style lights I bought were about $120. The newer version with the switch cost around $180. A $50-60 difference. Moving on to the box itself. Right away I noticed the box's punch outs were difficult to get open and fold over when using a screwdriver. The older version's punch outs popped open pretty easy. I believe the reason is that the box is constructed out of a little thicker metal. One other thing I like was that the box's door to access the wires is now hinged onto the unit which is kinda cool but annoying. Kinda falls back in the way when wiring. I liked the old door style because you could detach the door, do your wiring, then install the door. Overall, the new design is sound and works well. Just a few changes you may or may not like depending on your preferences. If I was to change the design, I would only address the punch outs. Seem to be very difficult to open on all 6 lights I installed. Other than that, these lights are breathtaking and will blow you away!Read full review
