    Excellent choice for shots on the fly

    Shooting for auto racing has a lot of difficulties already in the chore, so to have a lens that needs adjustments after every shot is not what I need. I love the VR function and being able to take the Auto Focus OFF. I can focus on one area on the track, and as the cars go over it, I can snap away, and sort it out later. With the auto ON, I can shoot away in the pits, knowing I will be able to use most of the shots. This lens allows portraits and general fun shots, and great victory lane options. You get what you pay for. If it is a Nikon camera, get a NIKON or NIKKOR lens. Period. They are made for each other, and I feel Nikon has the sharpest lenses. I have had Canon, FugiFilm, Pentax, and a few other cameras through the years. While nothing really compares with the workhorse Pentax K ...

    Great Lens

    This lens replaces an 18-105 lens that broke when my camera fell to the floor and broke the connector ring on the lens. This lens works great and I would highly recommend it if you have a Nikon digital camera (so long as the camera will accept the connection). I have used this type of lens with my Nikon D90 for about 8 years and have found it to be easy to connect with the camera, easy to use, and providing excellent pictures.

    My Personal Reflections on this Lens.

    When I bought this lens I was mainly getting a walk-around lens for a D5000. I am used to using Nikon and Sigma Fast Glass on my D80 but no motor in D5000 so time for a full featured AF-S Lens from Nikon. First I would like to address the Lens Mount. It's plastic, so big deal, the lens is a featherweight compared to my Sigma 24-60 or my nikkor 50 1.8. This should not be a major concern at this price point. Shooting around my stomping grounds has been interesting, the colors are less vivid that my other lenses but I shoot Raw anyway and adjust to my liking. The Sharpness is good for the most part and distortion at 18mm is controllable and may require some common sense to avoid strait linear objects at the frame of the photo. 18mm on this lens is a little worse than my 18-35mm ...

    Remarkable Lens!

    Remarkable lens! I had been using a fairly expensive aftermarket zoom lens from a different (but quite famous) maker on my Nikon D300. Then I tried this one, and the difference in sharpness of the pics is amazing. I'll be selling the other one. True, it's not quite as "fast" as some higher dollar offerings, but that's what I have a good strobe for...and I know how to do bounce flash. Most of my shooting with a zoom is done outside anyway.

    Very handy Lens - great features

    Much better lens than the one that came with the camera. It has VR control and auto and manual focus options. The 18 to 105 zoom range is very handy. This will be my GO-TO lens for most usage.
