About this product

Product Information

Tacky's the odd bird out among all his friends. Will this nonconformist teach old penguins some new tricks and help save the day? This hilarious series following the adventures of one superlative penguin is a modern classic. Tacky likes to do splashy cannonballs and greet his friends with a loud, "What's happening?" His fellow penguins find his odd behavior somewhat bothersome. But when fearsome poachers come to the iceberg hunting for penguins, Tacky's odd ways may be just the thing that saves the day. From beloved children's book author Helen Lester, and cherished illustrator Lynn Munsinger, Tacky the Penguin is a delightful tale about being true to yourself--even when it means being a little different from everybody else.

Seller absolutely, stubbornly refused to communicate with me on the item. I bought it anyway because it was a good price. I sent several messages that went unanswered. So sad. Other than that the shipping and condition was good. The packaging poor and I was very surprised it wasn't damaged. No padding just 2 thin plastic bags.

  • Grandson's Latest Favorite

Tacky the penguin seems surround by penguins that share a sameness while he is the misfit. I love how he seems content in the ways he's different. Just marching to the beat of a different drummer, I suppose. Anyway, those around him seem to be lost in their own little "us" world while he's a peripheral player. Eventually, though, the day comes when all the other penguins are frightened into exile and Tacky ends up standing alone against the scary intruders. In the end, the other penguins stand with him and they successfully run off hunters who are hoping to catch, cage, and sell them. My grandson (recently turned 5) loves to act this out with a stuffed penguin as I read it. He joins into Tacky's silly style of marching and his funny song and even the hunters' chant as they look for "pretty ...

  • Tacky the Penguin

This book is Funny!!! I use it as an introduction for an art lesson on penguins with kindergarten and 1st grade classes. Beside being so funy that my students regulary laugh so hard that I have to stop reading for a few moments, it also has an important moral to teach about acepting people for who they are and celebrating their differences. In the book Tacky's quirkyness is so unbelivable that it scares off a clan of snarling wolves. His bold personality saves his compainions and they exclaim "Tacky is an odd bird but a very nice one to have around." If you have a pulse you will love this book.

  • Cute little book

  • Enjoyable for adults and kids!

This book has a fun story with great illustrations, and Tacky's personality just jumps out at you! You can almost hear the music when he sings, and you can't help but love that quirky penguin! My 2 year old loves this book, and my cousins loved it when they were 8 and 10. Gotta love it when the outsider saves the day!
