Plot slow to start but once the story gets going the suspense starts moving. The warnings given to man. "Don't go into that room." Over and over, they tell him, don't stay in that room, but of course he wouldn't listen. Even after he learned the History of the room, his persistence lead on. He would find out that there is paranormal in life. A very intriguing horror classed movie. Samuel L. Jackson playing his part good as usual. He can make a movie mighty strange and terrifying. I'll watch it over and over again.

A favorite movie. Happy to see the alternate ending. Much better than the theatrical release. Great purchase

Here's why. Stephen King's psychological horror rarely ever shows its face on the screen the way it appears in his writing. This movie captures a lot of the mental torture that Stephen King writes so well (embodied in room 1408). I typically always see Cusack as playing himself in every movie he's in. Fortunately, this role appeals to that character. I would say see it and judge for yourself. I specifically enjoyed the background music and director's choice of camera angles. I also appreciated the mix of surprise horror and psychological. All too often, a horror film loads up too much on one angle and is predictable at times. 1408 is a fresh perpective on horror, and needless to say a spectacular performance.
I went to see this at the cinema with my husband and we both really enjoyed it. When it came out on DVD we brought it, watched it and were hugely annoyed that the ending was completely different and there was no alternative ending on the disk. We researched and found that if you buy the "collector's edition" you get the ending from the cinema release, but it hasn't been released on region 2 format. Great film, great cast, very odd (in a good way), fab story, would recommend to anyone!
This was a pretty decent movie. Cusack & Samuel L. played their parts very well. I would call this film a "Metaphysical Mind-Bender" I keeps you guessing and praying that something like this will never and could never ever happen to you! If you get a chance buy it... I collect Horror/Suspense films so Of Course I had to buy it. The two disc set comes with 5 post cards from the Dolphin Hotel. The first disc has the film, John Cusack on 1408, Inside room 1408, & the theatrical trailer. Disc 2 has the Extended Directors Cut with Alternate Ending, Feature Commentary by Mikael Hofstrom (director) Scott Alexander (writer) & Larry Karaszewski (writer), The secrets of 1408, & Deleted Scenes with Optional Commentary. The film is PG-13 rated and is 112 min..
