Genesis embraced the new medium of music videos quickly and effectively in the early 1980s, and this proved to be a crucial factor in helping them achieve their impressive popularity. Phil Collins, Tony Banks, and Mike Rutherford were the driving forces behind the band in this period, though former singer Peter Gabriel does make an appearance. Thirty-two videos are collected here, spanning more than two decades, and including both the group's biggest hits and its more obscure and experimental songs, with moods ranger from somber to exuberant. "No Son of Mine," "I Can't Dance," "Misunderstanding," and "Invisible Touch" will be remembered by most MTV viewers of that era, as well as the bizarre video for "Land of the Lost," with its puppet versions of the band members (and, of course, the Reagans). Also included here is some rare BBC footage of a "Paperlate" performance, and Peter Gabriel's appearance in the 1999 version of "Carpet Crawlers," one of this collection's more interesting moments both musically and visually. With its readily accessible, emotional, and catchy brand of pop, Genesis has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, and the reasons for that success are evident in this comprehensive retrospective.
