If you've never been in a long term relationship or marriage then you probably won't get the message in this film and I would probably advise you to avoid it. If you HAVE met the above criteria then this movie is a must see. If I were a marriage councilor I would REQUIRE all prospective clients to see it and they might not even NEED a councilor. It's simply a fly on the wall view of the erosion of a marriage and how it isn't catastrophes or major issues that tear up a marriage rather, it's the mundane, squeezing the toothpaste from the middle things that pile on a marriage that make you forget why you got married in the first place. There is a LOT of explicit language as well as sexual content but it's not done in bad taste at all. Most guys would call this a chick flick (and I'm a guy and yes it is) but there is much for a guy to relate to. I find tears welling up in my eyes every time I watch it. This one is not to be missed.Read full review
Bruce Willis (the husband), has a wonderful child-like personality, and always sees the good in every situation with humor. Michelle Pfeiffer (the wife), is an anal perfectionisit becasue she has to be. During well-filmed scenes where the two of them reminisce about their 15 years as a couple, we see numerous visits with marriage counselors which are hilarious, and might very well change any couples mind about going to see one! My only criticisim about this film are when Bruce and Michelle have arguments, which I didn't feel were necessary to get the films point across.
This movie is one of the best love stories ever made. Not the kind of "happily-ever-after" love story that wraps everything up with a neat bow. This movie tells the hard truth about love: that sometimes it's painful and difficult, and disappointing -- but it's always worth it. The language is hard and dirty; the dialogue depicts how Life often is: they're both wrong, and they're both right. Not every arguement has a simple solution, and not every issue is clear-cut, right-and-wrong. Having weathered some very rough times in my 22-year marriage, I love to put this movie on and just remember why it's worth it. Watch it. Buy it. Enjoy it.
I like this movie. It has a lot of emotions in it. I love the main actors--so good in this.
