As a youngster of ten, and I am dating myself here, I was enthralled by this western tale of Indians on the warpath against a settler with a son in the rugged Northwest, even though it was filmed in Canada. The beginning song being sung over the credits just caught my imagination with that melody of "No Return, No Return". Then, when one sees Marilyn Monroe as a dancehall singer (which was really in a tent) one can't help but be mesmerized. For a ten year old, who is much, much older now, I was captivated by this lovely, blonde, beautiful woman. Oh yes, she was a great actress, too. She and Robert Mitchum did a good many of their own rafting stunts. Don't let the green-screen background fool you, because in the long shots you can see them trying to handle that raft in those rapids. Great storyline, great acting, beautiful scenery, add adventure, add a love story building along the way and throw in Indians on the warpath and one has a great movie. After all, RObert Mitchum must save his son, Mark, and Kate, who had been dumped in his lap by her no-good horse thief. Now, Matt has a score to settle. He needs to track down the no-good card dealer, while rafting down that roaring river with the beauty, who can find no fault in the horse thief, and his young son who would like a rifle. I am thankful that I found a VHS version of the movie so that I can show it to my grand daughter. She has watched the movie four or five times. So, like I said earlier, RIVER OF NO RETURN is an exciting, enjoying, and entertaining movie from the 1950's. Gosh, they don't make many westerns like that anymore. Well worth the time and effort to find this movie. I am very pleased to add it to my movie library. Yep, no longer a spring chicken, but even in my older years, I enjoy watching this movie just as much as I did when I was a kid. baronvonbenRead full review

It is a good story with some breath taking scenes and you soon realize that Robert Mitchum and Marilyn Monroe are very good actors.
