About this product

Product Information

Sir William Wallace of Ellerslie is one of history's greatest heroes, but also one of its greatest enigmas--a shadowy figure whose edges have been blurred by myth and legend. James MacKay uses all his skills as a historical detective to produce this definitive biography, telling the incredible story of a man who, without wealth or noble birth, rose to become Guardian of Scotland. William Wallace, with superb generalship and tactical genius, led a country with no previous warlike tradition to triumph gloriously over the much larger, better-armed, and better-trained English forces. 700 years later, the heroism and betrayal, the valiant deeds and the dark atrocities, and the struggle of a small nation against a brutal and powerful empire, still create a compelling tale.

A very sad story, but an excellent account of the holocaust. A book I would recommend others to read, particularly since antisemitism is quickly rising in the USA, and around the world. It should be a must read in schools! The transaction was smooth. The book arrived quickly, came as described. and was securely packed. Also, very reasonably priced! Would definitely buy from this seller again! Highly recommend!

Interesting book. Kind of a hard read to start. Ok that is all I have to say but this review is requiring 100 letters.

  • WILLIAM WALLACE

A fine biography of a true Scottish hero, who because of Mel Gibson's film, has become a hero to freedom loving people around the world. Imagine to have known and fought beside the real WILLIAM WALLACE, now that would be an honor. An honor even for one like me, whose paternal heritiage is 98% English.

  • William Wallace by James Mackay (1996)

I got this book for my son and he loved it ,but found that it had almost too much info. It took him a couple of weeks to read, but it was full of info and the "real" story of Braveheart.

  • William Wallace by James Mackay

My ancestors are from scotland and fought with William Wallace and Robert the Bruce. I wanted to read some of the history. I heard my ancestors are mentioned in this book. I have yet to receive the book, but hope lingers on. Thanx, John
