    The Black Cauldron

    This is an excellent fantasy adventure novel written for upper elementary aged kids and above. It is the second book in Lloyd Alexander's Chronicles of Prydain series. It was named a Newbery Honor book for 1966. The final book in the series, The High King, won the Newbery Award for the most distinguished American children's book of 1969. The stories are full of magic, swords and sorcery, and even a little romance. I have read this book several times with several different sixth grade classes over the years (yep, I' m a teacher). The hardback edition I purchased from eBay features a map and a pronunciation guide.

    Classic young adult novel. Lloyd Alexander's Prydain series is one of my favorites.

    I recommend this great book to any young (or old!) reader. Lloyd Alexander was a genius.
