Exactly what I expected from Toshiba

The Toshiba DVR-620 was exactly what I wanted and expected. I have had other brand DVD recorders, but the reliability of the "Toshiba" name brings confidence with it! I have had Toshiba TV's, dvd players, etc. and I was not disappointed with the DVR-620. It took me a short while to "learn" the machine, but it is well worth the time involved. I would recommend the unit to anyone. The "dubbing" of a VCR cassette to DVD disc was one main reason I purchased this machine because I have a large library of cassette's and now I can save them on dvd. Totally good choice.

    Works well

The DVR 620 works well but is somewhat complicated to use. If you just want to copy from an external source, it is fairly easy but if you want to copy from a VHS tape to DVD, it gets to be a little more complicated. Do not expect to copy a VHS tape that is copywrited. The tapes are made with a protection that the DVR 620 cannot read and write to DVD.

  • Great for transferring VHS to DVD, cheap DVD tray mechanism.

The Toshiba DVR-620 is great for transferring old home VHS to DVD. You need to read the manual though, make sure to finalize the DVD when done or it will not play. However, it is quite easy and straightforward once you read it. It has nice editing features to play with when creating your DVD's. The unit also up-converts, so VHS looks relatively good on large flat screen TV's. The front lower face of the unit flips down and you have access to all the play functions for the DVD/VHS players. I comment on this because I have read other peoples reviews that complain about the lack of buttons on the unit itself, but these users must not have read the manual like the other people who complain about the recording problems they have had. Read the manual! The only thing that I ...

  • Excellent recording device

When looking for a recorder for both VHS and DVD you can't beat this unit. It is as easy to use as any VCR or DVD recorder I have used. Output is as good as can be expected with a given source. Has a variety of connections available. Instructions are easy to follow. Dubbing could not be easier. The one thing I don't understand is the need to dub DVD to VHS. Why would you want to do that now? I guess some people do.

  • Good but no cigar.

It is possible that my first use would have been better if I had printed instructions. The CD wlth instructions was also incomplete or it simply did not have instructions presented clearly enough. eg: VCR to DVD set up was not anywhere in printed material and very poorly presented on the CD.
