With the help of the Laser Signature ID technology, this Whistler 12-volts radar detector displays in pulse-per-second the laser signal received and in turn, helps differentiate threats. On identification of a band, the Whistler PRO-78 SE gives voice warnings along with safety messages after selection of a feature. Excellent unit !!
Took it out for a test run when it arrived. Picked up a K band when the police seemed to have radar gun holstered in car. Wasn't pointed at us when he drove past. Alerted at least 1 mile ahead. Did not get false alarms ( like we usually did with old unit) at Walmart. Husband very pleased with this unit.

Excellent for the Price. Best in Class
Rated one of the best for the price, this detector has great KA range. I think one of the best of any detector (Even as good as V1) . On the long stretches of I5 in Cali I was seeing KA alerts over a mile away. CHP loves to hide along the long stretches of 99 or I-5 freeway. I also love that you can turn off X bands (why they even have X band anymore is a mystery). Its not annoying like many others detectors. Great visual/audio alerts. Wish you could turn off K band, since only the "Your speed is" signs use K band in California and the rest are false. Occasionally get false "pop up" or "instant on" . Overall for the price, I dont think you will find one better. If you want to upgrade, go to the V1 or the passport 9500...Rated one of the best for the price, this detector has great KA range. Bought this Whistler PRO-78 SE Radar Detector (upgrading from Beltronics Vector 965 Radar Detector). The review of the Whistler PRO-78 SE Radar Detector at http://radartest.com/article.asp?articleid=100621 convinced me this was "Best Radar Detector Under $179" and I purchased used model that so far functions perfectly and detection range is superb. Blue Text Display highly visible even in bright sunlight. Multiple City Modes (City/City 1/City 2 Mode) reduces the annoyance of false alerts typically encountered in urban driving areas and makes this detector customizable to user's needs. This radar unit for the price has great range and all the features of units costing a lot more money, it will alert you well in advance of cops shooting your speed and the city driving mode eliminates the false echoes from businesses.....RECOMMEND!
