Mary Chapin Carpenter-The Calling. Very Enjoyable CD!
I was surprised when this CD came out and I had missed it's release. That said, I purchased it "hoping" it would be what a fan of MCC could expect. This compilation exceeded my expectations and more. I was surprised that she had gone back to some earlier roots of what made her famous in the first place. The previous CD's were very good and I have enjoyed them, but musically, she must have been experimenting with some different styles and so I was not as pleased with the overall projects. This is a sure fire win for the true Mary Chapin Carpenter fan. She does through some political views into the mix, which personally I could do without. I listen to music to be entertained and "get away" from all that. I'm not interested whatsoever in the views of ... I was surprised when this CD came out and I had missed it's release. With that out of the way, it's a great project. Her voice is "right there" as well as the music behind her. She hasn't lost her touch. I would recommend this CD for the new listener as well as the folks who have followed Mary Chapin Carpenter's career over the years.

Many people rave about this CD. I think it's good, but not my favorite of Mary Chapin Carpenter. I like that she usually has a good mix of country, upbeat, and beautiful ballads. This album is more mature, and strong on the lyrics, and starts off very strong. But I found the last 4 or 5 songs rather bland. Now, I was listening in the car, which may not be the ideal venue for appreciating some of the emotion and skill in this album. So if you are a fan of MCC, this is one to buy. But don't expect to be bopping around like you would to the last song I was playing on my way home tonight: Twist and Shout!Many people rave about this CD. Easy Listening - Excellence
Excellent CD for easy listening pleasure!!!! The lyrics are meaningful and the music is wonderfully arranged. Mary Chapin Carpenter's soulful voice is quite incredible; adding to one's enjoyment of this musical collection. I highly recommend this CD!
