Bound in full calf leather with title label and raised bands present to the spine. Boards have shelf-wear present to the extremities (boards are scuffed and worn). No ownership marks present. Text is clean and free of marks. Binding tight and solid. FIRST ILLUSTRATED EDITION of In Praise of Folly, with commentary by G. Listrius, and engravings by Hans Holbein, with the illustrations taken from drawings made by Holbein and his brother Ambrosius in the margins of 1515 edition of Erasmus's work by Froben. Edited by Charles Patin, this edition also includes a life of Erasmus and a bibliography, a life of Holbein and a catalogue of his work, plus the commentary of Gerard Lister, Erasmus'”
