About this product

Product Information

"C.S. Lewis is the ideal persuader for the half-convinced, for the good man who would like to be a Christian but finds his intellect getting in the way." -- Anthony Burgess, New York Times Book Review Our moral consciousness and moral judgements are proof to the human race that a moral being exists--God. Mere Christianity explores the core beliefs of Christianity by providing an unequaled opportunity for believers and nonbelievers alike to hear a powerful, rational case for the Christian faith. A brilliant collection, Mere Christianity remains strikingly fresh for the modern reader and at the same time confirms C. S. Lewis's reputation as one of the leading writer and thinkers of our age. The book brings together Lewis' legendary broadcast talks during World War II. Lewis discusses that everyone is curious about: right and wrong, human nature, morality, marriage, sins, forgiveness, faith, hope, generosity, and kindness.

Reviews
C. S. Lewis understood, like few in the past century, just how deeply faith is both imaginative and rational., As we witness Lewis develop we find that these volumes are working as a kind of unconscious autobiography., It is not surprising that Lewis's time-proven views are still flourishing while most other mid-20th-century works are nearly neglected.

AOK. Item as described, reasonable condition (as described), excellent price, reasonable packing and shipping time, no problems. Thanks. (Sorry, I don't do star ratings when some are automatic, as it's unfair to buyers to have eBay pre-empt any of the scores. You should complain to eBay, as your star ratings would have been very high.) I can't rate the product until I read it. It's unfair for eBay to require a product rating in order to send feedback! The guys at eBay are heavily into control.

    C.S. Lewis, Nuff Said

Clive Lewis is an amazing layman Christian. If you are already a Christian you will find insight and understanding for living the life and walking the walk. If you are a seeker and not yet surrendered you will find encouragement for your journey. In this book he presents the argument for the golden rule of doing unto others as you would have them do unto you. It is not "In your face, repent or suffer." He presents the Christian walk with common sense and day to day living. I love this guy.

  • Mere Christianity

This is a practical guide to Christianity written from the perspective of a non-believer who becomes a Christian. Although written in the 1940s, the book is surprisingly current. Questions are thorougly answered in a logical step by step fashion. The author states,"Anyone who wants to think about God at all would like to have the clearest and most accurate ideas about him which are available.....Never pin your faith on any human being.... As a living man Christ is here with us now." The author clearly discusses these topics and more. You can read this book in bits and pieces because there is so much to digest in each small chapter. This is excellent reference material and will be a keeper on your library shelf.

  • Mere Christianity

This book was required reading for a college class, but I recognized the author, C.S. Lewis. (he wrote all the Narnia stories long before they became movies). A classic author in his own right, he writes about timeless subjects, as in the case of this book, "Mere Christianity". Lewis provides an unequal opportunity for believers and nonbelievers alike to hear a powerful and rational case for the Christian faith. Lewis spoke on radio to his fellow Britons about knowing right from wrong and about what Christians believe. During war-torn Europe; he broadcast his uplifting speeches from 1942 to 1944. These speeches were eventually gathered into this book, "Mere Christianity". It is a work of oral literature, addressed to the people at war. If you are 'on the fence' so to speak, in ...

  • Mere Christianity by C. S. Lewis

I am a long time fan of C.S. Lewis and his master (his words), George MacDonald. I must say that I am a larger fan of both of their masters, Jesus, or Y'shua. Jesus laid into a few simple words immense mystery and simple understanding. Let us understand Mere Christianity is the work of a former Atheist turned Christian apologetic. The Christian and non-Christian alike should read this book so that they may better understand each other. If only the differing beliefs would study one another, en masse.... I find Lewis' prose to be distinctly intelligent and charming. Here for you is a chance to better understand the world in which we share and why many believe Y'shua to be the Creator Incarnate. God Incarnate. The concept shakes one. For anyone interested in theology, I highly ...
