Excellent Portrayal of Life in the South Just Before and After the Civil War

Excellent cinematography showing a truer picture of the South and its way of life than described in most history books. In the large majority of cases, slaves in the South became part of the family - and love was extended in both directions. Many slaves attempted to remain with their masters after the war. This was due to the better life they had than when they were freed to be on their own. There is no doubt that slaves had a better life in the South than they would have if they remained in Africa. Vivian Leigh was incredible in her role, but Mammy certainly walked away with the greatest portrayal of all. I believe Mammy won an Oscar for her role. Fantastic movie about a spoiled, self-centered, conniving young woman who succeeded in surviving a very difficult time in our country.

    Good movie, horrible DVD edition

This review is not about the movie, but about this particular DVD release. Much has been said about the movie, and it doesn't need additional reviews. However, this particular DVD release is truly horrible. Movie is split into two parts (one on each DVD) which isn't really necessary. Sound is beyond horrible; you can barely hear it most of the time, and it goes up and down in intensity, so it ruins the watching experience. Finally , whole DVD is in "standard" frame (4:3) instead of 16:9 or the original movie release; in this day and age of wide-screen TVs, who needs "standard" releases? Had that been advertised anywhere on the box, I never would have bought this DVD.

  • Gone With The Wind

First of all; I love classic movies. This is one of my favorites. It will be hard to fill the shoes of these great actors. And I loved Hattie Mc Daniel, in any role she played. Great story. Very happy with my purchase.. And as for the service; date of arrival, right on time! Thank you. I intend to share more with friends and relatives, encouraging them to purchase through ebay.

  • Well, since Scarlet was quite flighty and impulsive, I'd say the title is fitting.

I bought this as a gift for my sister. I've read Margaret Mitchell's book about 3 times as a younger person and have watched the movie about the same number of times throughout the years. I'm sure my sister will love it.
