I'd say this is a good basic unit to have on hand in case of emergency/power outages. LED's are bright, and the radio catches decently well, but you do need to turn it up a bit (I'm in a city area - not sure if it's ok in the wilderness). If you have an antsy kid around - hand this to them to keep 'em occupied. Once you've depleted the solar charge, this takes a fair bit of cranking to charge the batteries. So, it won't do well for: 1.) an injured/disabled person or 2.) someone with arthritis/hand/joint pain. While not Eton's best or most up-to-date unit, it seems it will perform the basics and keep us informed in the event the power goes down or disaster strikes.I'd say this is a good basic unit to have on hand in case of emergency/power outages. Small But Reliable
I'm putting together several survival bags for family vehicles and needed a small but reliable radio. Bought 1 to try it out and it worked great. With this model you have a light, can recharge your cell phone and can recharge the radio by AC, solar, by cranking the handle and DC. According to the specs 5 minutes of cranking yields 30 minutes of light. I haven't tested it but cranking the handle will keep a kid busy in any situation. The radio reception is surprisingly very good. It's better than some bigger radios. It also has several weather stations. The led light could be stronger but in an emergency situation any light is good. Haven't tried using it with my headphones but the jack is there if you want to.
