About this product

Product Information

Academy Award winner Kevin Kline (A FISH CALLED WANDA) stars as Cyrano in this critically acclaimed Broadway production of Edmond Rostand's classic play. A brilliant poet with an unfortunately large nose, Cyrano has the words, but not the face, to win over his beloved Roxanne (Jennifer Garner, JUNO). Unable to woo her directly, he instead feeds his beautiful verse to the handsome but vapid Christian (Daniel Sunjata, RESCUE ME), who delivers it to their shared object of affection.

  • Good performances! Great play!

Kevin Kline was wonderful. But Jennifer Garner was channeling Ethel Merman I think. She could no doubt be heard in the back row. But her performance lacked emotional range or empathy. Otherwise this was a fine production. I am happy to finally have it in my Cyrano collection.

  • Kevin Kline is wonderful as Cyrano!

We loved this play! We had been studying the play as a work of literature and wanted to see it as a drama. Kevin Kline was especially wonderful, but the other actors were great too. This was a different translation from the one we read, but did not affect our enjoyment of the play. I would recommend this DVD to anyone wanting to see Rostand's drama come to life on the stage.

  • Brilliant Cyrano for an Unworthy Lady

Kevin Kline pulls this off so perfectly. I cry every time I watch it. He makes up for Jennifer Garner in every way possible. But I still cringe when I see her. I don't much care for most of the supporting cast but still a good experience, especially for anyone who doesn't know the story.

  • Kline battles poor casting.

Poor Kevin Kline! I always thought it would be impossible to find a supporting cast with less talent than the Ferrar Cyrano, but I was wrong. Kline bravely battles, but the fight is all uphill after the first ten minutes or so: from the moment that Jennifer Garner blocks a sword thrust in the duel in rhyme. Jennifer Garner as Roxanne?!
