  • If you want drama, it has it, if you want funny anecdotes it has them, tradgedy and endeavour, has that too and the beauty of Antartica? Of course

    Again, another book speculatively - I guess it was the title, no ambiguities or riddle me ri play on words. Cheery-Gerrard's writing is exemplary, he brings the words to life. I have read all the books of Scott and Shackleton, and each of them are classics. But The Worst Journey has a value added quality, it is so descriptive that at times I felt if I spend too long reading chapters that I would end up with frostbite. I now yearn to visit Antartica, a place of such stark contrasts. And as with any book written about life as we live it, there are the unitended consequences that are quite funny, even under the most difficult circumstances. I think I can best describe this book in the words of a dear friend, who was very well read, though tended to go for 'Psychological Dramas' where there ...

    This book is an honest account of the last Scott expedition and exposes the incompetence and hypocrisy of Scott, who cost the lives of four of his companions. Thank God Mr. Cherry-Garrard lived to set the record straight.
