As said, I'm pretty satisfied using this as my first smart phone. It lets me check my gmail, take pictures, set multiple alarms, go online, set up my google calendar, and get access to the android market. The physical keyboard is also a huge plus because I have no texting skills on a dialer. I don't really want all the social network feeds, so I could turn those off, leaving only the news feed (like newspaper kinda news). On the other hand, I see two possible deal breakers. One, the batteries dies fast--I'm a moderate user but I have to charge the phone every day or so. Two, the "call" and "end call" buttons are on screen, instead of being physical buttons. That said, if you get a good deal on this phone, I still recommend it.
I have now had two of these phones. I killed the other on from dropping it in water. My fault and that is why it died. However I liked the phone so much I got another one. I love the physical keyboard. It is the perfect size. The Android OS is incredible. I used to use Windows Mobile but I am converted to Android. It is much better. I would have rated the phone as Excellent if it wasn't for one thing. The Screen sometimes does not respond. That is frustrating sometimes. But other than that is is great. The integration with Facebook, Twitter is great. I have also been able to put my work email on this with the MS Exchange using the Touchdown Software. I had to take it off because my phone wasn't approved. Oh well. The browser is great. I also use Cardio Trainer on it for my running and it is awesome. It tracks my workouts, post them on Facebook, follows me with GPS, tracks calories and all. The cool thing is this app is free through the Android Market. It is awesome. I would recommend getting this phone to anyone.Read full review
Only reason this review did not give the phone an excellent is because of the old Google 1.5 OS that is installed and no current updates are being released as promised by Tmobile. The phone is a Masterpiece. If you love the convenience of a full keyboard, along with a touch screen, that is also a slide phone, which by the way is very sturdy, I would recommend this phone to just about anyone. I already have one of these phones and decided to get one for my girlfriend since she is always borrowing it to play free android games. I can't begin to tell how much of a convenience it is to have this phone. The camera is very good in good lighting, however because no flash is included, low light is a problem. It also takes great video, as I have uploaded a few youtube videos and they look better than webcam videos. The keyboard is super compact and only thing you might not like is the spacebar. Because it is the same size as the other function keys on the lower part of the keyboard. If you are thinking about getting this phone, DONT HESITATE!! GET IT!!!Read full review
Honestly, I just got this phone and its okay. I havent been able to actually use it because it's still locked. I am part of T-Mobile and this is an AT&T phone. There was no code to unlock it, so it was not usable. However the touch screen and keyboard looks good. Its big because the keyboard goes on the back. Has a nice camera. Lets you go on facebook and different sites easily. Keyboard is big and easy to read. Has light up letters. Nice touch screen. It might be a little annoying at times. I guess it all depends on the type of person you are. I wish that I could have actually been able to use this phone so i could leave a better review. Im just trying to help you out by saying all the advantages of it.
This review is for the Motorola Backflip MB300 US model. A lot of reviews here on eBay are for a different phone than the one shown. Update:9-20-11. This phone worked perfectly in Europe! It recognized every network in the UK and France. (here is a phone screen shot I made in Paris http://flic.kr/p/axtKhR) I used free WiFi for email and Facebook. Update: 7-24-11. I have gotten a lot of questions regarding using this phone without a data plan. I have owned this phone since November 2010 and still do not have a data plan. I access data thru WiFi. Here is a screen-shot of my account on ATT, showing where I have opted-out of a data plan (which I did when I owned a Palm Treo): http://flic.kr/p/a6M4zW Some have told me that ATT will not give them this choice and I dont have the answer why they restrict who can and cant opt-out of data. Before you buy one, log in to your ATT account and see if you can check the data opt-out box. If you can, then you can own this phone without a data plan. This is my first Android phone. I bought it 11-11-10 for $135. I updated it to Android 2.1, then rooted it, then installed Titanium Backup, and I froze 34 ATT pre-installed apps including Motoblur (NOTE,WILL NOT UNFREEZE) and the phone is so much faster. I also downloaded APNdroid to turn off 3G. I do not have a Data plan; I use WiFi instead. Then I exported all of my Outlook and Facebook contacts to Gmail and the phone syncd them all. I also downloaded TaskKiller and CacheCleaner to clear the clutter after a lot of use to keep it speedy. It is great as a phone and a PDA. The battery lasts two days for me with occasional use. The 2.1 Eclair update gave it Speech to Text, so I can send text messages without typing,(in a quiet environment). It works very well. But my favorite thing about it is the fact that when you flip the phone open, the camera switches sides. Open it halfway, and you can hold it overhead and take pictures above the crowd and still see what you are getting. Or hold it upside down and near the ground and take street level shots. My friends would see images that I posted and ask if I laid down in the street just to take the picture. I also love the clock mode that stays on at night when its charging. If you love sharing YouTube vids, open it in tabletop mode (like clock mode) and you can play YouTube videos to amuse everyone without holding the phone. This phone is great! Its not for power users who want to play graphic-intense video games, but its great for the casual user. I am going to buy another one to practice loading custom ROMs on. I already downloaded the developers kit and Android desktop software to maybe write my own ROM. By one on ebay and kiss those contracts goodbye!
