  • So many roads

I first encountered John Hammond on the So Many Roads album, where several of the musicians were the core of what would become The Band, also the great harmonica player Charlie Musselwhite (billed as C. D.). It was, ahem, life changing, and afterwards I sought out his recordings as they became available in New Zealand. Later, in Australia, I was delighted to see him in performance several times and to meet him (a very nice man). Half a dozen tracks from So Many Roads appear here, and a well-judged compilation collects Hammond in acoustic solo and electric band settings.
