An innovative adaptation of Ursula K. Le Guin's futuristic science-fiction masterpiece about a man named George Orr (Davison) with the incredible power to literally make his dreams come true. A great rare treat
DVDs of this film are rare, so I couldn't pass it up! I actually saw the original broadcast on PBS in 1980 but I was too young at the time to really get it. If you like thought-provoking scifi, you'll dig this one. The extra features included in the disc such as the interview with Ursula K. LeGuin are great too. A little known sci-fi gem
A rare movie made for PBS. Delivers very large ideas on a slim budget. It doesn't have the production values of say a Star Wars movie but the ideas are pretty original. The dvd doesn't have the greatest quality picture especially at first but it gets better. (The digital version was probably made from an inferior copy.) This is the original Lathe of Heaven . A&E made a newer version that wasn't as good .The 1980 PBS movie is just as great as I remember, it was way ahead of its time ! Great story that exceeds the limitations of its medium.
I saw this film on PBS when it first aired, and I thought it was one of the greatest films ever. Based on Ursula K. LeGuin's book, it was an intriguing story brought to life. Audio and video quality and the screenplay are WAY last century, and, remastered or not, it looks and sounds murky on current state of the art equipment.
