Good value for the money
For the price, you get many features. Its small and portable, has a bright screen, expandable storage, good processor, good sound, etc. The RAM is only 2 GB, but it will do, and for the price, its fine. Due to its name, it also has the nVIDIA apps and the controller, for those that want that. I originally wanted a tablet for drawing but for general use, its fine, too. The sound is good for me and better than my phone, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active, which has a tiny speaker in the bottom. Gladly, my phone charger works for it. Heavy on weight, light on performance.
Had waaaay higher expectations of this unit. It was purchased to use as a video display for a DJI drone, HD video is sometimes choppy. To my surprise, the DJI Go app crashes every two minutes. What a cryin shame. The power button on the Shield feels very low quality, its overly firm - I have to use to hands to press it. The power button doesn't have a click, it just mushes in if you're lucky. Ergonomically it just doesn't work well. It has a confirmed bug with charging, I've found a workaround, I can only charge when the unit is powered off. The forums confirmed there is a fix coming but what a piece of junk. Great for anything you want to do
I have extremely high standards with my electronics, and I love this tablet because it has the power to run every app; seriously. I have not found an app that this tablet cannot run, and I've looked. This is not to say it won't crash, because it does. However, get an app to free resources and restart the tablet, and it will run any app. I've had this tablet for about a year, and I just got my wife the new one. The battery doesn't last as long as many other tablets, but it can be modified by screen brightness, turning wifi off when not in use, etc. I've plugged it into my 55" HD TV, and it looks great. The short battery life and the small storage capacity, of the 16gb version, are the only downsides I've found with this tablet, but there is a 32gb version. Best tablet ever!
Would have liked it to be 2 inches bigger with a bigger batter to play it more! I have an iPhone but I am now loving android. I'm never going back... Why does Microsoft Word take up 345 megabytes on an iPhone, but only 35mb on a tablet running android nougat?! I have no idea, but I like it. I used a 64GB microsd card in the slot and 80gb of my memory is so bountiful, I can barely fill it up. I've already downloaded around 5 console quality games, 5 arcade style games (air hockey, racing games) 30+ other apps, and i'm very satisfied with NVidia and Android OS!! This really is a do-it-all tablet. I am happy NVidia put out hardware that I can use. I was actually looking at game consoles and saw the Shield TV. I saw this tablet while googling "shield" for price comparing reasons and thought that I would try it for when I am bored at work but have access to wifi. I'm impressed!! I paired it with a magnetic bluetooth keyboard professional case/stand (Cooper touchpad executive) and i'd rather use this than my laptop. I actually was inspired enough to wrote my first book on it in a single day. PRO TIP: Buy the NVidia shield controller (2017 version) and you will be even more happy with your purchase. I feel bad for those who do not go "all in" when they buy things. I knew this was going to be good from the reviews. *People complained about this not coming with a USB cable, but the controller and keyboard case did, so i'm not worried! I love the battery length and watch movies without worrying about charging. The color clarity is beautiful. The quality is professional looking and smooth. Screen is easy to clean and wipe. Great for single tasks but chokes on inadequate memory for multitasking and ANY notifications
It has a great screen but it is dated in working memory. You can optimize its speed by turning off ALL notifications in all apps. Seriously stomp them all. Maybe also also do not upgrade OS to 7.0 unless you must. A great gaming tablet
I got this for gaming and have not been disappointed. The screen is bright and clear, refresh rate is high and images are high resolution. The battery tends to last a reasonable 8 hours of constant use, and the streaming Nvidia gaming portal is a dream to use. The software updates are timely and as long as you put a memory card in the machine is also great for watching downloaded movies. The sound is sharp and loud, much better quality than I expected. Good deal
I have 3 tablets, this one dies the fastest by almost twice as fast as iPad mini 2 or Samsung s-tab, with similar daily usage. However it cost half as much as either of my others and is twice as nice for standard use. It also can take a 128 gig card, which is very handy for me for use this tablet as my image display for dji phantom 4 professional and all filming is cached to the display device. Serious issues after upgrade
After I initially powered it on, it immediately told me about the upgrade to Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) which I was very excited about. But apparently there is an issue with this tablet and 6.0 where the battery drains rapidly. A full charge barely lasts a couple of hours. Nvidia is aware of it and has been since the update came out but no fix is available. It's going on a month now, at least. If you do buy this, go to the Nvidia support forum and monitor. Beautiful graphics, annoying Android performance
Good: - Amazing graphics performance. I am playing Marvel Contest of Champions and on my previous Sony Z3 the graphics was OK but on this one... When I'm fighting in a rainforest there is fog and it feels I have to wipe the screen because of the rain pouring down on the screen. Amazing. Ergonomics: it is designed for players, holding the tab both hands for a firm grip. Bad: Android performance: It is laggy. Using softkeys sometimes takes seconds - on my Z3 it was snappy- and switching between apps (eg game- messenger app) often makes the game restart... Nvidia could have polished that part a bit. Battery life. It is OK but for this grapics performance which is draining a battery (worth it) the tab could use a bigger battery capacity. 1mm extra in thickness and a bit more weight wouldn't matter for gamers. Package: it is simple you get the tab and that's it.
